Meet the Team Behind United Punjab

Shahzad Khan Raja

Shahzad Khan Raja will be coming on board with United Punjab as a manager, bringing solid expertise, proven mastery of sourcing new talent, outstanding interpersonal skills and his Punjabi 

cultural knowledge to connect the Punjabis from both India and Pakistan. Having operated at the forefront of local and national community events, he nurtures an inherent passion for catalysing the celebration of true talent. He has organised, managed and promoted exceptional music shows, Melas, charity events, cultural events involving many different cultures and communities. He strives to promote love and peace amongst communities.

Shahzad is looking forward to overseeing a great deal of collaborations, building on from the success of previous works. He served as the prime mover behind bringing Sufi folk artist Yasir Hussain on board with United Punjab, organising two very prestigious concerts last year: one in Leicester and one in Birmingham under the United Punjab banner. He has also been associated with and sponsored many big shows, including Satinder Sartaaj, Nooran Sisters, Gurdas Maan and many other acclaimed qawwāls from Pakistan.

We provide a competitive platform for upcoming and unappreciated talent from United Punjab, promoting East and West Punjabi Singers, and Musicians of a unique and distinct traditional style. We will provide in-house guidance and mentoring and suggest authentic ideas for your songs, music videos and collaborations. We will oversee the production of music videos, online promotion, as well as the other professional aspects of your artistry. We will support you in every step of your musical journey and see you through any challenges that artists often face.

Shahzad’s alignment with Sufism and Punjabiyat stems from his identification of himself as being a disciple of Baba Bulleh Shah, although he is of Kashmiri background. He is very well travelled in India and Punjab, and Bombay, having been invited by the legendary Gurdas Maan to honour him, as well as one of the highly accomplished Bollywood Film Directors Aneez Basmi. He was also specially invited by Jasbir Jassi to meet him and to attend his show in India. He is looking forward to launching a podcast studio in collaboration with United Punjab, managing and refining new talent, concerts, artists and much more. Having made a number of compelling videos in Pakistan, Shahzad has opened the eyes of audiences to the Sufi shrine of Baba Bulleh Shah, and the house of Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh, which were both greatly received. He has dedicated a significant amount of time to bringing communities together from diverse walks of life, particularly those with roots in India and Pakistan. He has overseen a number of Sufi Qawwali mehfils with prominent artists from India and Pakistan and is thrilled to be laying the groundwork for many more.

Shahzad qualified as a solicitor in year 2002 and was the sole practitioner of SKR Legal Solicitors from December 2012 until January 2015. In January 2015 SKR Legal Solicitors was incorporated into a limited company and Shahzad became the Managing Director. Prior to this, he was the founder and Senior Partner of the former firm Insaaf Solicitors since 2007.

Shahzad also has several years of experience as a Partner at a well-known firm in Leicester, and is highly respected among his peers for his work in this area. He is qualified as a police station and court duty solicitor, and has substantial experience of all areas of criminal defense work including terrorism, fraud and serious violent crime. He has a particular interest in serious fraud cases, and has been involved in high profile and complex VHCC, VAT Fraud and serious violent crime cases.

Azad Khan Raja

Azad Khan Raja is the Founder and CEO of United Punjab. He possesses an inherent appreciation of Punjabi folk music and qawwali due to a lifelong interest within the family through his late grandfather, and hopes to continue his legacy.

He has worked behind the scenes on many projects in the field of Punjabi music and folk. Through United Punjab, he strives to promote famous folk music heritage as the medium of expressing the Sufi message of Divine love, unity of mankind and selfless service. He believes in using music as a tool to bring people together and break barriers. Born and raised in England, he advocates diversity and celebrating differences in culture, and enjoys the reward of combining tastes for an eclectic musical mix. Azad would like to see new talent grow on a strong platform, where he can guide them with his expertise. Under United Punjab, Azad is delighted to be launching his podcast studio as a platform to introduce new talent, folk music, commercial music, films and many other exciting topics.

Azad also works with SKR Legal Solicitors as a dedicated Marketing Manager, overseeing the firm’s online affairs and ensuring a strong presence online and through social media. Due to his Marketing expertise, he will also be organising musical concerts and online marketing, helping with various types of production work with United Punjab.

Away from SKR Legal Solicitors and United Punjab, Azad has recently completed a degree in Biomedical Sciences. His further interests include photography, travel and creative arts.
